Decanter vino

WHAT IS A DECANTER FOR WINE AND HOW TO USE IT?

For wine lovers, Decanter is an indispensable tool to have in the cellar.

However it is important to know how, why and in which occasions to use it.

Before talking about this subject, it should be known a wine decanter is a carafe made of glass or transparent crystal, used for decanting and oxygenating wine, that is to say to promote its maximum expression. As you well know, in order to preserve wine during aging, carbon dioxide is added and it will be reduced at the moment of decanting into the decanter resulting to the palate a wine having smooth but well structured flavors.

WHY USE A DECANTER?

Decanting and oxygenating a wine, promotes its evolution and allows the bouquet of aromas to express at the best of its potentialities. Thanks to its particular shape, with a very wide and flat base

a very wide and flat base where the contact between oxygen and wine takes place and it will allow the latter to release its aromas faster without losing them thanks to the long and narrow neck of this carafe.

carafe. The delicate pouring of wine from a bottle into this carafe is done only in two cases and in particular for red wines: when the wine is mature, that is aged for a long time,

such as, for example, our Taurasi DOCG Vigna Piano D'Angelo, in order to make these aged wines limpid in spite of the natural deposit of sediments at the bottom of the bottle;

another case in which we suggest you to use a decanter is when you are about to serve a young wine in order to favor oxygenation and allow the aromatic bouquet to express itself at its best and more intensely.

BUT HOW TO USE A DECANTER AND HOW DOES IT WORK ON WINE?

Pouring wine from the bottle into the decanter changes according to the wine we are going to drink or serve. In case it is a young wine, such as our Tenus Aglianico, it is good practice to pour the wine directly into the

decanter in order to intensify the process of oxygenation; whereas in case of a mature wine it is good to pay attention to the moment of decanting because the main purpose of using this decanter is to bring to the table a clear wine.

to bring to the table a clear and brilliant wine without any sediment.

In case you are an attentive and very precise person, we will leave you another curiosity: sommeliers or, anyway, wine lovers, while pouring wine in the decanter, place a candle or a lamp in order to light up the "neck of the bottle".

illuminate the "neck of the bottle" and observe the movement of sediments that will stop before they reach the exit of the bottle while stopping the pouring of wine.
